Lisbon (Portugal), October 25, 2025 (SPS) – The work of the Mediterranean Committee of the International Union of Socialist Youth (IUSY) began Saturday in the Portuguese capital, Lisbon, with the participation of a delegation representing the Sahrawi Youth Union (UJTSARIO) and Student Union (UESARIO).
The meeting, held under the theme “Strengthening International Solidarity for Justice and Freedom,” gathered youth and student delegations from various countries across the region.
Hosted by the Portuguese Socialist Youth, the event aims to strengthen coordination and cooperation among socialist youth and student organizations and to exchange views on current regional and international issues, particularly those related to peace, freedom, and social justice.
The first day featured opening speeches highlighting the importance of international solidarity among progressive youth and student movements, and the need for joint action to confront challenges affecting peoples’ rights to self-determination.
The meeting’s proceedings are expected to continue over two days with discussion sessions and workshops addressing youth issues, democracy, and solidarity with peoples struggling for their freedom and their inalienable, non-negotiable right to self-determination.
