
Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), 16 October 2025 (SPS) – The Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Ambassador Selma Malika Haddadi, received a courtesy visit on Thursday at the AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa from the Minister of Education and Vocational Training, member of the National Secretariat, Mr. Abdelkader Taleb Omar. The visit took place as part of the Minister’s official engagements with AU officials.
The Minister congratulated Ambassador Selma Malika Haddadi on her well-deserved appointment as Deputy Chairperson of the African Union, noting that her exceptional qualifications and experience represent a valuable asset to the AU’s mission. He emphasized that the Union greatly benefits from the dedication and competence of Africa’s sons and daughters who embody the organization’s aspirations, objectives, and enduring principles.
Mr. Taleb Omar briefed his host on the activities he participated in during his stay in the African capital, Addis Ababa, particularly those related to Africa Skills Week 2025, as well as the main areas of cooperation between the Sahrawi Ministry of Education and the African Union—especially with the AU Commission for Education, Science and Technology, which oversees the sector.
He also expressed appreciation for the African Union Commission’s consistent political and humanitarian support for the Sahrawi people over the decades, stressing that strengthening and diversifying bilateral cooperation between the Sahrawi Republic and the AU’s various organs is both essential and strategic.
For her part, Ambassador Haddadi warmly welcomed her Sahrawi guest, reaffirming that the African Union Commission spares no effort in serving all its member states equally, in the collective interest of the continent.
The Deputy Chairperson thanked Minister Taleb Omar for his kind words of confidence and commended the Sahrawi Republic for its continuous cooperation and active participation in the various meetings and programs organized by the AU.
The Minister was accompanied during the visit by Mr. Malainin Lakhal, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Sahrawi Republic to the African Union, and Mr. Ergeibi Abdallah, Cultural and Media Attaché at the Sahrawi Mission in Addis Ababa.
The Sahrawi Minister is currently participating in the Africa Skills Week 2025, held in Addis Ababa under the theme “Empowering Africa’s Industrial Future: Skills for Innovation, Growth and Sustainability”. He is joined by Mr. Malainin Lakhal, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Sahrawi Republic to the African Union, and Mr. Hamdi Did, Advisor to the Ministry of Education in charge of AU Affairs.
