Shaheed El-Hafed, July 14, 2025 (SPS) – The Polisario Front’s representative at the United Nations and coordinator with MINURSO, Dr. Sidi Mohamed Omar, a member of the National Secretariat of the Polisario Front, reaffirmed that the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination, independence, and legitimate resistance is an inalienable and non-negotiable right.

During a lecture delivered to a group of students and officials from various institutions on the latest developments in the Sahrawi cause, Dr. Sidi Mohamed Omar emphasized that the Sahrawi people, after nearly five decades of resistance and steadfastness, stand on great achievements that have proven to the world their ability to thwart the enemy’s conspiracies.

When addressing the UN-African settlement process, he reviewed the stages of negotiations and clarified that the occupying state (Morocco) continues to reject a just and peaceful solution, betting on the sustainability of the current colonial status quo. Meanwhile, the Sahrawi people remain steadfast in their inalienable right to self-determination, independence, and resistance.

The Sahrawi diplomat pointed out that the Moroccan occupying state, as usual, is fishing in troubled waters by intensifying its multi-faceted diplomatic offensive against the Sahrawi people. This includes policies of buying influence and attempting to sway the positions of certain countries, which necessitates an escalation in diplomatic efforts to counter the occupation’s schemes.

Dr. Sidi Mohamed Omar also highlighted the key legal principles framing the Sahrawi issue as a decolonization matter, as reaffirmed by the strong presence of the Sahrawi cause at the UN Special Committee on Decolonization (C-24) seminar in May and during its ordinary session discussions.

In a broader analysis, Dr. Sidi Mohamed Omar examined the current international landscape and its challenges for Sahrawi diplomacy and the Sahrawi cause as a whole. He focused on the crises facing the current international system, particularly attempts to undermine the foundations of international law, including the UN Charter, through unilateral policies and practices adopted by certain powers regarding various global issues.
