Madrid, 6 July 2025 (SPS) – Spanish writer and journalist Victoria García Corera affirmed on Friday that the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination, freedom, and independence is a legitimate right that cannot be relinquished or circumvented, forming the cornerstone of any talk of genuine and just peace in the region.

In an article published on her social media accounts, the Spanish journalist emphasized that the Moroccan occupation remains the primary obstacle to achieving peace and stability in Western Sahara. She stressed that "there can be no peace as long as Morocco continues its expansionist policies and insists on confiscating the will of the Sahrawi people and suppressing their voices."

In this context, she stated: "There will be no peace as long as Rabat persists in its expansionist and colonial approach, and Western Sahara will remain an open front of resistance until victory." She argued that attempts to impose a fait accompli, policies of displacement, and plundering resources will not succeed in breaking the will of a people who have remained steadfast for decades.

Ms. García Corera explained that the Sahrawi people "continue their legitimate struggle today through all peaceful means, despite all forms of repression, blockade, and media blackout." She noted that the new generations in the occupied territories and refugee camps carry the torch of resistance with determination, until freedom is achieved and an independent state is established across the entire national territory.

She added that "ignoring the Sahrawi cause or promoting false narratives will not change an undeniable truth: the Sahrawi people insist on their right to self-determination in accordance with international legitimacy and United Nations resolutions."

She pointed out that "attempts to distort facts and steal history will not grant the Moroccan occupation legitimacy but will only further isolate its aggressive policies." She affirmed that "the Sahrawi people no longer face the occupation alone—today, there are awakened consciences across the world that believe in the justice of their cause and reject the expansionist and resource-plundering policies pursued by the Moroccan occupation."

The Spanish journalist concluded her article by calling for exposing the daily violations endured by the Sahrawi people under occupation and revealing its crimes to international public opinion. She stressed that "the real bet today lies in the persistence of the voice of truth, because the falsity of narratives and the buying of silence will not grant the occupation legitimacy—it will only strengthen the Sahrawis’ resolve to claim their legitimate right to freedom and independence."
