New York (United Nations), 11 June 2025 (SPS) – Algeria’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Mr. Toufik Laïd Koudri, dismissed Morocco’s statements before the UN Special Committee on Decolonization (C-24) regarding the Sahrawi issue as "attempts at falsification, historical revisionism, and the imposition of a fait accompli policy."

"I will not dwell too much on the Moroccan delegation’s intervention, as its content is largely inspired by a work of fiction titled How to Become a Good Colonizer in Less Than Fifty Years—and for the rest, by an imagination fueled by sources unworthy even of a crossword puzzle," declared Mr. Koudri on Tuesday while exercising his right of reply before the Decolonization Committee.

"The Moroccan delegation’s statement only confirms what we have always said: these are nothing but futile attempts to distort history and impose a fait accompli through transactional diplomacy," he added.

"Without listing all the legal foundations that underscore the obligation to resolve the Sahrawi issue as a matter of decolonization, a few simple questions suffice: If Morocco claims 'sovereignty' over the occupied territories of Western Sahara, why did it negotiate and sign a partition agreement with Mauritania in 1975—before Mauritania withdrew and Morocco annexed the remaining portion?" he challenged.

Addressing the committee, he further asked: "If Morocco’s presence in Western Sahara is 'legitimate,' why does it seek unilateral recognitions that are as futile as they are illegal?"

The Algerian diplomat concluded by stressing that the so-called "Green March," which Morocco claims allowed it to 'reclaim' Western Sahara, was in reality nothing but a blatant invasion. "There has never been, throughout history, any sovereign link between this territory and Morocco," he asserted.
