Occupied El Aaiún, April 30, 2025 (SPS) – Human rights activist and president of the Sahrawi Body Against Moroccan Occupation, Ms. Aminatou Haidar, has announced her participation in the national and international campaign for the release of Sahrawi political prisoners held in Moroccan jails. The campaign was launched on March 30 from France, passing through Spain before reaching Kenitra, Morocco.

In an exclusive statement to Sahrawi TV, Aminatou Haidar explained that the campaign comes at a time when the occupied Sahrawi territories are witnessing a dangerous escalation by the Moroccan occupation state on all levels, including the suppression of public freedoms. She added that Morocco continues to block international observers from entering the territory and expels them systematically—a reality, according to Haidar, that reflects a dire situation that the occupying state seeks to conceal, fearing exposure.

She further stated that the campaign has noble objectives: demanding the unconditional release of all Sahrawi political prisoners in Moroccan jails while also exposing the occupation state’s policy aimed at eradicating the Sahrawi people.

Regarding the on-the-ground reality in the occupied territories, the Sahrawi activist explained that Moroccan occupation authorities continue to commit crimes against Sahrawis on all fronts, the latest being the demolition of Sahrawi homes amid shocking international silence.

In light of this, Haidar stressed the urgent need for serious intervention by the international community, given that the Sahrawi issue remains a decolonization matter. She held the United Nations fully responsible, accusing it of directly or indirectly supporting the occupying state.

Haidar concluded by stating that the key element in this struggle is the resilience of the Sahrawi people, who will never abandon their demands for freedom and independence. She called on the Sahrawi people to remain united and rally behind their sole legitimate representative, the Polisario Front.
