Ban Ki-Moon arrives in Sahrawi refugee camps

Smara (Refugee Camps), 5 March 2016 (SPS) – UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon arrived Saturday in the Sahrawi refugee camps in his first visit to the region. Mr. Ki-Moon was received in Tindouf airport by the Sahrawi authorities and then he headed to the Wilaya of Smara, Sahrawi refugee camps, where he was greeted by a large gathering of people. In the Wilaya of Smara, he will visit 17 June School that sponsored by the UN children's organization UNICEF.

Paris, March 07, 2016 (SPS) -The French newspaper  l'Humanité Monday regretted the standoff of the United Nations (UN) because of its failure to achieve the self-determination referendum of the people of Western Sahara in accordance with international legality.

 

"Since 1991, the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) is unable to carry out the consultation because of the intransigence of the Moroccan kingdom which calls for broad autonomy in defiance of international resolutions, "wrote the daily.

 

UN seeks to hold donor conference for Western Sahara in Geneva before June

Washington, March 08, 2016 (SPS) - United Nations wants to hold a donor conference for the occupied Western Sahara in Geneva before June, the deputy spokesman of the UN secretary general, Farhan Haq, said Monday.

Ban Ki-moon will call for a donor conference to be held before June in Geneva, Switzerland, to provide relief aid to Saharawi refugees in the camps, Haq told reporters.

Ban Ki-moon, who wrapped up Monday a visit to Algeria, said he was saddened by the four decade-long humanitarian tragedy in Western Sahara.

Algiers, 7 March 2016 (SPS) - United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Sunday, in Algiers, issued a plea to give "more attention and action" to the question of Western Sahara, a territory occupied by Morocco since 1975, insisting on Saharawi people's inalienable right to self-determination.

 

Speaking at the Diplomatic and International Relations Institute, Ban Ki-moon said the Saharawis people have the right to dignity and self-determination.

Algiers, 7 March 2016 (SPS) - The United Nations seeks to find a "political, just, lasting and mutually acceptable solution" based on the "self-determination" of the Sahrawi people, said Sunday in Algiers the UN chief, Ban Ki-moon.

 

"As regards Western Sahara, we have exchanged views on what is being done by the UN for a political, just, lasting and mutually acceptable solution, based on the self-determination of the Sahrawi people," said Ban following the audience granted to him by President of Algeria Abdelaziz Bouteflika.

Algiers- President of Algeria Abdelaziz Bouteflika received Sunday in Algiers United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, who is on an official visit to Algeria.

Algiers, 7 March 2016 (SPS) - Algerian Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal on Sunday has received United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, who is on an official visit to Algeria, said the Prime Minister Office in a statement.

 

The discussions were an opportunity for an "exhaustive assessment of the long-standing cooperation between Algeria and the United Nations system and he common willingness to give a new impetus," said the source.

Algiers, 6 March 2016 (SPS) - UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on Saturday started visit to Algiers, as part of his tour to the region in a bid to relaunch the negotiations for the settlement of Western Sahara conflict, opposing Morocco and Polisario Front.

The talks to which also took part the officials of the Polisario Front took place at the headquarters of SADR’s presidency.

Ban Ki-moon was welcomed upon his arrival in Shahid El-Hafed by Saharawi Prime Minister Abdelkader Taleb Omar, before being received, for high-level discussions, with President of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), Mohamed Abdelaziz, also secretary-general of the Polisario Front.
