UN seeks solution based on "self-determination" of Sahrawi people

Algiers, 7 March 2016 (SPS) - The United Nations seeks to find a "political, just, lasting and mutually acceptable solution" based on the "self-determination" of the Sahrawi people, said Sunday in Algiers the UN chief, Ban Ki-moon.
 
"As regards Western Sahara, we have exchanged views on what is being done by the UN for a political, just, lasting and mutually acceptable solution, based on the self-determination of the Sahrawi people," said Ban following the audience granted to him by President of Algeria Abdelaziz Bouteflika.

Ross to resume tours to reset Polisario-Morocco negotiations

Algiers, 7 March 2016 (SPS) - United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said Sunday in Algiers that he asked his special envoy to Western Sahara, Christopher Ross, to "resume his tours" to restart talks between Morocco and the Polisario Front in a bid to settle the Western Sahara issue.
 

Ban Ki-moon issues urgent plea to provide "more attention and action" to Western Sahara issue

Algiers, 7 March 2016 (SPS) - United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Sunday, in Algiers, issued a plea to give "more attention and action" to the question of Western Sahara, a territory occupied by Morocco since 1975, insisting on Saharawi people's inalienable right to self-determination.
 
Speaking at the Diplomatic and International Relations Institute, Ban Ki-moon said the Saharawis people have the right to dignity and self-determination.

Algiers, March 10, 2016 (SPS) - Saharawi Coordinator to Minurso, Mohammed Kheddad, said Wednesday in Algiers that UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's latest trip to the region has shown "what the international community has been proclaiming for years."
 
Kheddad stressed that "Western Sahara conflict is a decolonization issue and Morocco's alleged sovereignty over this territory has been rejected through all the resolutions issued by the international legality."

Morocco's accusations against Ban Ki-moon, "mark of panics"

Brussels, 11 March 2016 (SPS) - Saharawi Minister Delegate for Europe Mohamed Sidati said Thursday in Brussels that Morocco's attack on the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is a sign of panic from Rabat, which has taken every action possible, over the past years, to undermine UN efforts to settle Western Sahara issue.
 
Morocco's accusations against the UN chief clearly show the "nervousness of Moroccan authorities which has resorted, once again, to pressure and blackmail," Sidati told APS.
 

Ban's visit to Western Sahara: Morocco under international isolation

Madrid, 11 March 2016 (SPS) - Morocco is under international isolation and its positions are contrary to international legality and peoples' rights to self-determination, the representative of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) to Spain, Khira Bulahi, said Thursday.
 
Morocco is in an unenviable situation, the Saharawi official told APS in response to Moroccan government's latest statements regarding United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
 

Western Sahara: Italian Parliament Friendship Intergroup on same wavelength as Algeria

Rome (Italy), 11 March 2016 (SPS) - Italian Parliament Intergroup for Friendship with Western Sahara People said it is "on the same wavelength" as Algeria, wishing a quick solution to Saharawi, and which, it stressed, is incumbent on the United Nations.
 
"The Parliament Intergroup that I chair is on the same wavelength as Algeria, which is a neighbour of the two parties to the conflict, in supporting a solution based on self-determination of Western Sahara people," Stefano Vaccari has stressed.
 

Organization of rally to support Saharawi political prisoners of Gdeim Izik in Spanish capital

Madrid (Spain), March 12, 2016 (SPA) - Thousands of people from various Spanish cities organize Saturday in Madrid, Spanish, a rally in support of Saharawi political prisoners of Gdeim Izik who have been on unlimited hunger strike since the first of March.
 
In a statement issued on the occasion, the signatories demanded the immediate release of the group, condemning the sentences issued against them and all political trials against the Sahrawi population by the Moroccan authorities of occupation.
 

Algeria, Pan-African Parliament share "same stance" over Western Sahara

Algiers,March 15, 2016 (SPS) -Algeria and the Pan-African Parliament share the "same position" over Western Sahara issue, as both of them support Western Sahara people's right to self-determination through the enforcement of the international law, President of Pan-African Nkodo Dang said Tuesday in Algiers.
 

Western Sahara: Morocco must "urgently" engage in negotiations with Polisario Front

Paris, March 15, 2016 (SPS)  - French Association of Friends of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (AARASD) called on Monday in Paris Morocco to "urgently" engage in negotiation with the Polisario Front, "instead of invective and blackmail."
The AARASD said in a letter that the King of Morocco Mohamed VI "should reasonably consider the deadlock his country reached," adding that "after 40 years, Morocco, mainly its kings Hassan II and Mohamed VI, persists in imposing to international community the fact that Western Sahara is part of Morocco."

Frente Polisario Great friend and militant Ahmed Baba Miska passes away

Chahid El Hafed(Saharawi refugee camps), March 15, 2016 (SPS) - the great friend and militant of Popular Front for the Liberation of Saguia al-Hamra and Rio de Oro  Frente Polisario , Ahmed Baba Miska died yesterday  after a long struggle with the disease in the French capital, Paris.
 
Mr. Miska was one of the first political figures who have accompanied the Saharawi people in their struggle for independence both nationally and internationally.
