Uppsala (Sweden), 24 October 2026 (SPS) – The POLISARIO Front’s representative to Sweden and Norway, Senia El Bachir Abderrahman, participated today as guest of honour in events marking the 60th anniversary of the Swedish organisation Uppsala Africa Group, delivering a lecture on the latest developments in the Sahrawi cause and its political and legal dimensions internationally.
She reviewed recent developments at the United Nations, including ongoing Security Council discussions, warning against attempts by some permanent members to entrench the colonial status quo in Western Sahara at the expense of the Sahrawi people's inalienable right to self-determination.
She also highlighted the pressures facing the Sahrawi people and the POLISARIO Front, including cuts to humanitarian assistance for Sahrawi refugees, stressing that the difficult humanitarian situation cannot be separated from the political challenges facing the Sahrawi cause.
Senia El Bachir Abderrahman called for stronger international solidarity with the Sahrawi people and urged activists, human rights defenders, journalists, academics and civil society organisations to support their right to self-determination and independence in accordance with international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.
