Occupied El Aaiún, September 25, 2026 (SPS) – The League for the Protection of Sahrawi Prisoners in Moroccan Prisons has condemned the punitive measures taken by the occupation authorities against Sahrawi civilian prisoners on hunger strike.
The League held the Moroccan occupying state fully responsible for the physical and psychological safety of all the hunger strikers, with particular concern for prisoner Bachir Khada, whose fate and whereabouts remain unclear, in what it described as an attempt to break his morale.
It expressed its full solidarity with the demands of the nine civilian prisoners on hunger strike in Ait Melloul 2, Tiflet 2, and Kenitra prisons, calling for their concentration in a single location and their immediate transfer to cities in Western Sahara.
The League renewed its appeal to the United Nations Security Council, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), and all international human rights organizations to intervene urgently and pressure the Moroccan authorities to save the lives of the hunger strikers and to expand the mandate of the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) to include the protection of human rights and the documentation of violations.
