Shaheed El Hafed, August 29, 2026 (SPS) – Colombian Congressman David Alejandro Toro Ramírez condemned President Abelardo de la Espriella’s illegitimate position, which he described as complicit with the claims and allegations of the Moroccan occupation regarding Western Sahara, Africa’s last colony.
The Colombian congressman affirmed that Colombian lawmakers will express, in all national and international parliamentary forums, their rejection of this decision, which is biased in favor of the occupation’s unfounded claims, considering it illegitimate and contrary to international law.
In statements to the Sahrawi Press Agency (SPS), Alejandro Toro strongly affirmed that his parliamentary group would not remain silent in the face of what he described as a serious violation of Colombia’s historic position.
The Colombian congressman stressed that siding with and colluding with the claims of the Moroccan occupation lacks any legal legitimacy.
Western Sahara, Africa’s last colony, has been included since 1966 on the list of Non-Self-Governing Territories where the decolonization process has not yet been completed. It is therefore subject to the application of United Nations General Assembly Resolution 1514 concerning the granting of independence to colonial countries and peoples.
