Boumerdes, August 13, 2026 (SPS) – The third day of the Summer University for Executives of the Polisario Front and the Sahrawi Republic featured lectures delivered by Algerian academics.
In this context, Dr. Naima Bournane delivered a lecture entitled “Geopolitical Power and Bias in International Conflicts: A Reading of the Construction of the Digital Narrative on the Western Sahara Issue.” With regard to the Sahrawi cause, the lecturer stressed the need to exploit and harness technology to promote the Sahrawi cause, garner support and solidarity, and counter the disinformation practiced by the Moroccan occupation.
In this regard, she highlighted the importance of training Sahrawi cadres in this field and participating in media spaces and social media platforms, stressing that conflicts are increasingly being managed in these spaces, describing these platforms as a battlefield where each side seeks to use them to its own advantage.
The second lecture was delivered by Dr. Farida Ben Othmane under the title “The Natural Resources of Western Sahara and the Balance of International Powers.” She highlighted the economic importance of Western Sahara and its strategic location, which has made it the object of colonial ambitions. The lecture also addressed the natural resources possessed by Western Sahara and the legal dimension of the issue as a question of decolonization.
She stressed that the Sahrawi people are the exclusive holders of sovereignty over its land, and underscored that Western Sahara’s natural resources lie at the heart of the conflict. She called for making use of all available means to defend the Sahrawi people’s right to independence and to put an end to the plundering of their resources through legal and popular action, as well as by putting pressure on those complicit with the Moroccan occupation in the exploitation of the Sahrawi people’s resources.
The third lecture was delivered by Dr. Wardia Hanoush under the title “The Sahrawi People’s Right to Self-Determination: An Inalienable and Established Right Between Effectiveness and Efficacy within the Framework of International Legitimacy.” She stressed that although the Western Sahara issue is a decolonization question registered with the United Nations, the international community has failed to fulfill its obligations.
She clarified that there is a gap between law and interests, stressing that the Sahrawi people must make use of all available means to defend their cause and diversify their advocacy methods.
