Tuscany (Italy), 24 July 2026 (SPS) – The Sahrawi delegation on an official working visit to Italy continued its programme of meetings in the Tuscany region, reinforcing long-standing cooperation and solidarity with Italian local institutions.

The day's activities began with a meeting at Florence City Hall, the capital of Tuscany, attended by Ms. Paola Galgani, Deputy Mayor of Florence, and Ms. Benedetta Albanese, Councillor for Education, Training and the Culture of Memory, along with the presidents of solidarity associations supporting the Sahrawi people in the region.

The meeting provided an opportunity to review the longstanding cooperation and solidarity between the Municipality of Florence and the Sahrawi cause. Both sides praised the strength of these relations and commended the municipality and solidarity associations for their continued support for the Sahrawi people, particularly in the fields of healthcare, social affairs and child welfare.

For its part, the municipal leadership reaffirmed its commitment to continuing political and humanitarian support for the Sahrawi cause, based on its conviction in the justice of the cause and the Sahrawi people's inalienable right to freedom and self-determination.

The delegation also met with Mr. Stefano Vaccari, President of the Parliamentary Friendship and Solidarity Group with the Sahrawi People, in the presence of the heads of the Italian solidarity movement's associations. Participants reaffirmed their determination to strengthen the presence of the Sahrawi issue within the Italian Parliament and to continue working with the Italian Government in support of the legitimate national rights of the Sahrawi people.

Concluding the day's programme, the Sahrawi delegation was received by Mr. Francesco Pignotti, Mayor of Bagno a Ripoli, together with members of the municipal executive and the municipal council. The mayor reiterated the municipality's continued support for the Sahrawi people and their just cause.

The visit culminated in the signing of a twinning agreement between the Municipality of Bagno a Ripoli and El Aaiún Wilaya. The agreement was signed by Mayor Francesco Pignotti and El Aaiún Governor El Ghouth Mamouni, marking another step in strengthening the longstanding friendship, cooperation and solidarity between the two sides and reinforcing their partnership in support of the Sahrawi people's struggle for freedom and independence.
