Catalonia (Spain), June 20, 2026 (SPS) – The Polisario Front Office in Catalonia, in cooperation with the Association of Friendship with the Sahrawi People, organized a study day on the work of medical missions on the occasion of World Refugee Day.

The event, held under the theme "Catalonia and Healthcare in the Sahrawi Refugee Camps," was opened by the Polisario Front Representative in Catalonia, Mr. Mohamed Salem Ahmed Laabeid. He emphasized the importance of coordination and cooperation among all teams and groups, as well as working through the official institutions of the Sahrawi State, particularly the Ministry of Cooperation and the Ministry of Health, which is primarily responsible for the sector, in addition to the Polisario Front representation, in order to facilitate the work of all participating teams.

Representatives of 16 medical teams and organizations active in the refugee camps took part in the study day. Among them were the Association Eyes of the Sahara, the Catalan branch of Doctors of the World, the Midwives of the World Association, representatives of the Dr. Bituha Association, and other organizations.

The event included several workshops, notably on health projects in the camps; the role of the Catalan public administration and health-related projects, including public policy and funding; medical missions and patient cases in the Sahrawi refugee camps; the role of Sahrawi doctors; as well as conclusions, recommendations, and a future action plan.

The study day also provided an opportunity for the team responsible for accommodation centers hosting young patients in the region to identify and discuss the main obstacles that sometimes hinder the effective functioning of these facilities.
