Geneva (Switzerland), June 3, 2026 (SPS) – The General Union of Workers of Saguia el-Hamra and Rio de Oro (UGTSARIO) is participating in the annual session of the International Labour Organization (ILO), which is being held with broad participation from country delegations, trade unions, labor bodies, and workers' organizations from around the world.
In a press statement, the UGTSARIO Secretary-General, Nafei Ahmed Mohamed, highlighted the importance of this participation and its advocacy role in shedding light on the situation of Sahrawi workers under occupation, as well as those living in refugee camps and in the diaspora.
He stressed that their suffering represents a complex chapter in the tragedy of an entire people engaged in a difficult struggle for freedom, dignity, and independence.
The UGTSARIO delegation led by the Secretary-General held several bilateral meetings with participating trade unions, representatives of various countries, and multilateral organizations. These meetings aimed to strengthen international solidarity efforts, particularly trade union support for the struggle of the Sahrawi people and their legitimate rights to freedom and independence.
