Johannesburg (South Africa), 2 June 2026 (SPS) – South Africa's Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has reaffirmed its firm and unconditional support for the Sahrawi people and their just struggle for freedom and full independence.

The statement was made during a major celebration organized by the party on the occasion of Africa Day, attended by its prominent leaders and organizational structures, as well as representatives of the accredited African diplomatic corps.

In a speech reviewing the continent's liberation history and the struggles of its peoples against colonialism, the party's president, Julius Malema, stressed the historical necessity of decolonizing Western Sahara, describing it as the last colony in Africa.

Mr. Malema strongly condemned the Kingdom of Morocco and what he described as its “continued intransigence” despite the clarity of international legitimacy and its resolutions.

In this context, he stated that “it is shameful to celebrate the liberation of the African continent while the Sahrawi people continue to live under occupation and their natural resources are subjected to ongoing plunder.”

For his part, the Sahrawi Ambassador to South Africa, Mr. Abba El-Mad, expressed the Sahrawi side’s appreciation and gratitude for the principled and noble positions of South Africa, across its various institutions and political organizations. He praised the country's consistent support for the Sahrawi people's struggle and steadfastness in the face of challenges.
