Managua (Nicaragua), May 26, 2026 (SPS) – The regional conference for the Caribbean organized by the United Nations Special Committee on the Situation with regard to the Implementation of the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples (Committee of 24), under the UN General Assembly, opened in Managua, the capital of Nicaragua, as part of the Fourth International Decade for the Eradication of Colonialism (2021–2030).
The conference is being held under the theme: “Advancing Progress, Renewing Commitments, Partnerships and Innovative Approaches.” The opening ceremony was attended by Mr. Denis Moncada, one of Nicaragua’s Foreign Ministers, who delivered a speech in which he praised the work of the Special Committee on Decolonization and stressed the need to accelerate the process of ending colonialism in all its forms and manifestations.
Speaking about his country’s historic position in support of liberation and decolonization causes, Minister Moncada once again reaffirmed Nicaragua’s support for the legitimate rights of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic.
The Polisario Front is represented at the conference by a delegation composed of Dr. Sidi Mohamed Omar, member of the National Secretariat, Polisario Front Representative to the United Nations and Coordinator with MINURSO; Mr. Mohamed Zroug, Ambassador in charge of Latin America and the Caribbean; and Mr. Abderrahman Mohamed Yeslem, Chargé d’Affaires at the Sahrawi Embassy in Nicaragua.
The Sahrawi delegation had the opportunity to meet with several participating delegations, during which bilateral relations and the latest continental and international developments concerning the national cause were discussed.
