Managua (Nicaragua), May 26, 2026 (SPS) – Mr. Valdrack Jaentschke, one of Nicaragua’s Foreign Ministers, received a Sahrawi delegation led by Dr. Sidi Mohamed Omar, member of the National Secretariat and Polisario Front Representative to the United Nations and Coordinator with MINURSO.

During the talks, which took place at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Sahrawi diplomat delivered a letter from the President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Brahim Ghali, addressed to the Co-Presidents of Nicaragua, Mr. Daniel Ortega and Ms. Rosario Murillo.

The letter dealt with bilateral relations between the Sahrawi Republic and the Republic of Nicaragua, as well as the latest developments concerning the Sahrawi issue.

The discussions provided an opportunity to brief the minister and his accompanying delegation on the latest developments related to the UN-sponsored peace process in Western Sahara, particularly in light of the recent UN Security Council resolution and the direct discussions held between the two parties to the conflict within that framework. Issues related to bilateral relations between the two countries were also discussed.

For his part, Minister Valdrack Jaentschke expressed his appreciation for the visit and reaffirmed that Nicaragua’s support for the Sahrawi cause stems from a firm and unwavering principle, which explains the consistency of its support for the rights of the Sahrawi people despite political changes and evolving circumstances.

He recalled that following the victory of the Sandinista Revolution, one of the first measures taken by the revolutionary government was the recognition of the Sahrawi state and the Polisario Front, stressing that this historic position has remained unchanged throughout the decades.

Accompanying the Polisario Front Representative to the United Nations and Coordinator with MINURSO during the talks were Mr. Mohamed Zroug, Ambassador in charge of Latin America and the Caribbean, and Mr. Abderrahman Mohamed Yeslem, Chargé d’Affaires at the Sahrawi Embassy in Nicaragua.
