Ljubljana (Slovenia), May 18, 2026 (SPS) – Sahrawi activist Aminatou Haidar concluded her visit to the Slovenian Parliament with a press conference jointly hosted by Slovenian parliamentarian Nataša Sukič and activist Aminatou Haidar.
During the conference, several issues related to the human rights situation in Western Sahara were addressed. The speakers focused on the conditions of civilians and the challenges faced by the population in the territory, in addition to the importance of conveying their voices to European public opinion.
Nataša Sukič praised the struggle of Aminatou Haidar, considering that her presence within a European parliamentary institution reflects the importance of supporting human rights causes and highlighting them in international forums. For her part, Haidar stressed the need to continue raising awareness of the Sahrawi cause and strengthening international solidarity with it.
The two speakers also called on the media and civil society organizations to continue paying attention to this issue, to work toward providing broader coverage of the humanitarian reality in the region, and to encourage discussion on fair and peaceful solutions to the ongoing conflict. (SPS)
