Seville (Spain), May 8, 2026 (SPS) – The first edition of the International University Congress opened Thursday at the headquarters of the University of Seville and will continue for three days.
The opening ceremony was attended by Moulay Mhamed Ibrahim, Mohamed Salem Daha, and Mohamed Saeed from the Sahrawi side, alongside Professor Dolores Lopez Enamorado, responsible for institutional communication and relations with the Arab world, and Dr. Alejandra Pacheco Costa.

In her opening remarks, the Vice Rector welcomed the Sahrawi delegation participating in the congress and expressed the readiness of the University of Seville to host academic and scientific activities of this kind in order to discuss the Sahrawi issue from various perspectives and disciplines, as well as to strengthen bilateral relations with Tifariti University, which is linked to the Spanish university through a cooperation agreement.
She also thanked Tifariti University for annually hosting dozens of students and professors from the University of Seville in the refugee camps, where they carry out scientific and academic activities within the framework of scientific and cultural exchange between the two universities.

The Sahrawi delegation expressed its appreciation and gratitude to the University of Seville for organizing this academic event, which addresses the Sahrawi issue from multiple cultural, legal, political, and social dimensions. The delegation also highlighted the current situation of the Sahrawi cause, the major achievements attained, and the challenges it faces.
The delegation shed light on the Sahrawi educational system and the most important achievements accomplished in this field despite the hardships and refugee conditions, thanks to determination and the support of friends and solidarity groups. They also pointed to the challenges facing the education sector in the Sahrawi State in recent years as a result of reduced international humanitarian aid and the risks this poses to future generations.

The congress is attended by numerous professors and researchers from several international universities from Spain, Portugal, Germany, Venezuela, Canada, Peru, Colombia, and Western Sahara.
