Shaheed El-Hafed, 29 March 2026 (SPS) – The Secretary-General of the General Union of Workers of Saguia El-Hamra and Rio de Oro (UGTSARIO), Mr. Nafie Ahmed Mohamed, received a French delegation that included trade unionists from the French Workers’ Union branch in Le Havre and members of the Solidarity Tanker Truck Association, who are on a working and solidarity visit to the institutions of the Sahrawi Republic and the Sahrawi refugee camps.
The UGTSARIO Secretary-General reviewed the situation of Sahrawi workers in light of the current challenges and gave an overview of the complex situation experienced by the Sahrawi people under occupation.
For their part, the guests of the Sahrawi people expressed their admiration for the Sahrawi trade union experience, highlighting the union’s objectives and areas of work, and affirming their support for Sahrawi workers and for their people’s right to freedom and independence.
The participants also discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations in the fields of cooperation and partnership in a way that would help create new job opportunities and alleviate the suffering of the refugees.
The French Workers’ Union maintains strong relations with UGTSARIO, recently crowned by the organization of an international conference in solidarity with the Sahrawi people in the French capital, Paris, organized jointly by the two unions along with other French trade union bodies.
The French union branch in Le Havre is also expected to establish areas of partnership and exchange, particularly in the fields of transport workers and the environment.
