Shaheed El-Hafed, March 8, 2026 (SPS) – The National Sahrawi Commission for Human Rights (CONASADH) has expressed its condemnation of the practices targeting Sahrawi women in the occupied cities of Western Sahara.

In a statement issued on the occasion of International Women’s Day, the Commission denounced Moroccan practices that contravene all international norms, which have affected Sahrawi women throughout the years of occupation, particularly the continued use of torture, as well as crimes such as assassination, rape, and sham trials against Sahrawis living under occupation.

The CONASADH also expressed its surprise at the lack of action by UN bodies and mechanisms responsible for protecting and respecting human rights in providing protection for Sahrawi civilians living under occupation.

The statement called on the UN Secretary-General, the UN Security Council, the Human Rights Council, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, and the International Committee of the Red Cross to establish an independent UN mechanism to monitor and report on the human rights situation in Western Sahara.

It urged the International Committee of the Red Cross to assume its responsibilities within the framework of the Geneva Conventions, to work for the immediate and unconditional release of all Sahrawi defenders, activists, and political prisoners, annul the unfair and sham sentences issued against them, reveal the fate of all missing Sahrawis whose whereabouts remain unknown, and open the occupied territories to the media, international observers, and international parliamentary delegations.
