Madrid (Spain), March 7, 2026 (SPS) – The Parliament of Navarre has renewed its full commitment to the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination by adopting the “Navarre Declaration,” which calls for an end to the Moroccan occupation of Western Sahara and reaffirms the international legitimacy of the Polisario Front as the sole representative of the Sahrawi people.

According to a statement issued by the parliament and published on its official website, the resolution was approved by a majority vote of the participating political parties.

The explanatory memorandum states that the resolution includes all the analyses and commitments contained in the “Navarre Declaration” issued during the 29th Conference of the Joint Parliamentary Groups, held on February 20–21.

The conference, which brought together representatives of Spain’s autonomous regional parliaments, reaffirmed recognition of the Polisario Front as the legitimate representative of the Sahrawi people, as internationally acknowledged.

The declaration also stated that Morocco’s presence in Western Sahara is illegal and called for the immediate end of the occupation, with respect for the Sahrawi people’s right to freely determine their future. It stressed that the territory remains a non-self-governing territory under international law and that Spain remains the administering power by law, in accordance with judicial precedents.

The declaration further called for support for the United Nations–led political process aimed at reaching a just and lasting solution that guarantees the right to self-determination.

Regarding human rights, the declaration demanded the immediate release of all Sahrawi political prisoners, particularly the Gdeim Izik group, and called for an end to systematic human rights violations in the occupied territories. It also stressed the importance of parliamentary monitoring missions and the continuation of their work through 2026.
