Basque Region (Spain), February 27, 2026 (SPS) – The headquarters of the Basque Parliament hosted a ceremony commemorating the 50th anniversary of the proclamation of the Sahrawi Republic, attended by the Speaker, representatives of political parties, solidarity associations, the Polisario Front’s representative in the region, as well as association leaders and members of the Sahrawi community.
In his opening remarks, the Polisario Front’s representative in Spain, Abdulah El-Arabi, praised the consensus among Basque political parties in support of the Sahrawi cause. He provided the audience with a comprehensive briefing on the latest developments, stressing that the will of the Sahrawi people to exercise their right to self-determination cannot be bypassed, that the Sahrawi state is an irreversible reality, and that the Sahrawi side remains committed to a process leading to self-determination through a referendum.
Representatives of the parliamentary groups, in their interventions, reaffirmed their solidarity and their commitment to translating their political and humanitarian pledges into concrete support, particularly by strengthening the resilience factors and institutions of the Sahrawi state.
