Shaheed El-Hafed, February 20, 2026 (SPS) – The Sahrawi Observatory for the Monitoring of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection (SONREP) has condemned the continued violations of international law by the Moroccan occupation, as well as its plundering of the Sahrawi people’s resources and depriving them of their right to self-determination and independence.

In a statement, SONREP denounced the Moroccan occupation’s integration of the occupied areas of Western Sahara into its energy strategies, stressing that the “so-called green projects are an attempt to cover up the crimes of the occupation and entrench a colonial reality based on resource plunder, violations of international law, and the deprivation of the Sahrawi people of their right to self-determination and sovereignty over their resources and wealth.”

It further pointed out that Morocco is using renewable energy as a tool of occupation, which constitutes a violation of international law and the rulings of European and African courts.
