Occupied El Aaiún, January 16, 2026 (SPS) – Noemí Santana Perera, Member of the Spanish Congress for the Podemos party, stated that the Moroccan occupation authorities' decision to prevent a political and human rights delegation from entering the occupied territories of the Sahrawi Republic constitutes a "flagrant violation of international law and human rights."
She confirmed that the delegation will file a direct official complaint against Morocco.
In a statement to Sahrawi media, the MP described the treatment of her delegation upon arrival at the airport in occupied El Aaiún as a "blatant violation of fundamental rights." She emphasized that the Moroccan occupation authorities dealt with the delegation using force and exclusion, without any legal basis or official justification.
Perera added that the delegation—comprising three Spanish political figures—was prevented from disembarking the plane immediately upon arrival, despite their repeated insistence and requests to identify the authority that issued the order.
Ms. Perera asserted that what occurred was not only a violation of the rights of the Sahrawi people but also an infringement on the personal rights of the Spanish delegation members. This necessitates, "submitting the necessary complaint before the competent authorities."
She added: "What we experienced for just a few minutes allowed us to imagine the scale of suffering endured daily by Sahrawi activists as they defend their land and their looted resources."
