Johannesburg (South Africa), September 30, 2025 (SPS) – The proceedings of the fifth ordinary session of the Specialized Technical Committee on Financial Matters at the expert level commenced on Monday morning in Johannesburg, South Africa. This meeting is part of the preparations for the gathering of the African Union member states' Finance Ministers.

The work of this session, which will continue until the third of October, focuses on the issue of financing the healthcare sector in Africa. This is considered one of the urgent priorities imposed by increasing health challenges, alongside exploring ways to mobilize resources and secure funding in partnership with international and regional institutions and bodies.

The meeting is attended by a representative from the Sahrawi Ministry of Finance, Mr. Ahmatu Ahmed Mohammed, alongside experts and delegates from various AU member states. The consultative atmosphere aims to formulate a collective vision for enhancing financial and health policies across the continent.

These proceedings are scheduled to culminate in a ministerial-level meeting, which will include Finance and Health Ministers from the member states, to adopt recommendations and proposals that would contribute to strengthening the African health system and developing sustainable financing mechanisms for it.
