Lisbon (Portugal), September 26, 2025 (SPS) - The Portuguese Parliament rejected on Friday a proposal to recognize Morocco's alleged sovereignty over Western Sahara.

During a general session, the Portuguese Parliament rejected a proposal submitted by the Chega party, which called on the government to recognize Morocco's alleged sovereignty over Western Sahara.

The proposal was supported only by the Chega party, while it was rejected by the PSD, PS, CDS, IL, Livre, PCP, BE, and PAN parties. The JPP party abstained from voting.

The submitted proposal urged Portugal to immediately recognize Morocco's alleged sovereignty over Western Sahara.
