Kampala (Uganda), June 23, 2025 (SPS) – The Ugandan Movement in Solidarity with the Sahrawi People has called on the international community to uphold the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination and independence.

In a statement, the movement condemned the illegal occupation of Western Sahara and demanded the release of all Sahrawi political prisoners held in Moroccan jails.

The statement also expressed the Ugandan solidarity movement’s condemnation of the illegal exploitation of the Sahrawi people’s natural resources, which rightfully belong to them.

The movement reiterated its call for the international community to take concrete measures to hold Morocco accountable for its actions. In the same context, it urged international organizations to recognize the Sahrawi Republic and support its rightful place in the African Union and the United Nations.

It further called for increased pressure on Morocco to end its occupation and respect the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination.

The Ugandan solidarity movement concluded its statement by affirming that the Sahrawi people’s struggle for freedom in Western Sahara is a testament to their resilience and determination to achieve independence. "We stand with them in their pursuit of justice, dignity, and independence," the statement declared.
