Leipzig (Germany), 29 October 2026 (SPS) – A protest was held Wednesday in Leipzig, Saxony, to denounce the US draft resolution on Western Sahara before the UN Security Council and reaffirm the Sahrawi people's inalienable right to self-determination and independence.

Participants stressed the need to respect Western Sahara's status as a decolonisation issue and rejected any attempt to undermine the legitimate rights of the Sahrawi people or impose solutions that contravene international law.

The demonstrators also demanded the immediate release of Sahrawi political prisoners, including the Gdeim Izik group and Sahrawi students known as the companions of the martyr El-Ouali, calling for an end to politically motivated arrests and violations against the Sahrawi people.

They further urged foreign countries and international companies, particularly German firms, to halt the exploitation of Western Sahara's natural resources and respect the Sahrawi people's right to freely dispose of their resources.

The rally brought together participants in the German-French-Sahrawi Youth Forum and German solidarity activists, demonstrating international support for the Sahrawi people's struggle for freedom, self-determination and respect for human rights.

The demonstration forms part of ongoing Sahrawi political and human rights efforts to raise awareness in Germany, Europe and internationally about developments in Western Sahara and call for respect for international law and relevant UN resolutions.
