Occupied El Aaiún, October 6, 2026 (SPS) – The Association for the Protection of Sahrawi Prisoners in Moroccan Prisons received a phone call from the family of Sahrawi civil prisoner Mohamed Bourial, a member of the Gdeim Izik group currently held at Ait Melloul 1 prison, stating that their imprisoned son intends to enter a 48-hour warning hunger strike starting Tuesday.

The family added that their imprisoned son is taking this step in solidarity with his fellow striking prisoners, and to denounce the mistreatment and deprivation of rights he is subjected to by the staff of the aforementioned prison.

The family of civil prisoner Mohamed Bourial expressed deep concern for their son's safety regarding any retaliatory measures the prison administration might take against him. They appealed to international bodies, organizations, and all living consciences to intervene urgently to end the suffering of their imprisoned son and all his Sahrawi fellow prisoners.
