Occupied El Aaiun, October 5, 2026 (SPS) - The family of the Sahrawi civilian prisoner, Mohamed Bachir Boutenguiza, currently held in Kenitra prison in Morocco, reported that their son is in dire detention conditions and a serious health state that requires urgent medical intervention.

The prisoner arrived at the visiting room being carried, unable to stand due to his hunger strike, and unable to sit due to hemorrhoids accompanied by bleeding. The family added that he also finds it difficult to speak as a result of the hunger strike.

In this regard, the Association for the Protection of Sahrawi Prisoners in Moroccan Jails received an urgent statement from the Sahrawi prisoner's family following their first visit to him today, Monday. This was the first visit since he launched an open-ended hunger strike on September 23, during which his fate and whereabouts had remained unknown until this visit.

During the visit, the prisoner stated to his family that he is subjected to violence, mistreatment, and provocation by the prison director. Furthermore, the director of Kenitra prison threatened the Sahrawi civilian prisoner Mohamed Bachir Boutenguiza with retaliation through torture if he does not end his hunger strike.

As the Association for the Protection of Sahrawi Prisoners in Moroccan Jails conveys what the Sahrawi civilian prisoner Mohamed Bachir Boutenguiza and his comrades are enduring inside Kenitra prison, it sounds the alarm and demands that the Moroccan occupation authorities provide urgent medical care to the prisoner Boutenguiza, holding them fully responsible for his health and physical and psychological safety.
