UESARIO Fifth Congress elects new Secretary-General

El Aaiún Wilaya, 7 August 2026 (SPS) – Delegates attending the Fifth Congress of the Students’ Union of Saguia el-Hamra and Río de Oro (UESARIO) has elected Mohamed Lamine Saeed as Secretary-General of the UESARIO for a new four-year term.

He received 131 votes, compared with 3 votes for his opponent, Ghani Abah Dafa. The Executive Bureau was also announced, comprising both male and female students.

The Chairman of the Elections Committee praised the spirit in which the electoral process was conducted, as well as the sense of responsibility demonstrated in the discussions and deliberations of the Congress. He stressed that this sense of responsibility reflects the students’ commitment to national unity as a strategic choice for all Sahrawis.
