Managua (Nicaragua), July 19, 2026 (SPS) – The International Trade Union Forum held in the Nicaraguan capital, Managua, adopted a recommendation in support of the Sahrawi people's struggle and their just fight for freedom and independence.
The three-day event concluded with messages and solidarity recommendations supporting the just causes of peoples around the world.
Participants in the forum, organized on the occasion of the 47th anniversary of the Nicaraguan Sandinista Revolution, unanimously adopted recommendations in support of the peoples of Latin America and the world in confronting what participants described as the new imperialism.
The General Union of Sahrawi Workers, alongside trade unions from Central America and the Caribbean, South America and Europe, took part in the event, which featured several lectures and seminars addressing current international transformations and ways to strengthen trade union solidarity in support of workers' causes and the struggles of peoples, while working to create a political environment conducive to achieving social and economic justice despite the magnitude of the challenges.
The forum organized a solidarity stand in support of Sahrawi political prisoner Naâma Asfari, who is on indefinite hunger strike, and all his fellow prisoners in the occupation's prisons. Participants called for their unconditional release and respect for human rights in the occupied parts of the Sahrawi Republic.
The Secretary-General of the General Union of Sahrawi Workers, Mr. Nafei Ahmed Mohamed, delivered a presentation on the Sahrawi workers' experience, highlighting the latest developments in the national cause and the state of war endured by the Sahrawi people, as well as the suffering they have experienced for more than 50 years under the harsh situation of occupation and its consequences of separation, exile and dispersion.
The closing ceremony was attended, alongside the Secretary-General, by the Deputy Ambassador of the Sahrawi Republic to Nicaragua, Mr. Abderahman Sweid, who conveyed the congratulations of the Sahrawi state and people to the General Workers' Union of Nicaragua on the occasion of the 47th anniversary of the revolution in the country.
