Mantua (Italy), July 11, 2026 (SPS) – The Italian Province of Mantua has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Sahrawi cause.
The reaffirmation came during a meeting on Wednesday between the President of the Province of Mantua, Carlo Bottani, and the Polisario Front Representative in Italy, Fatma Mahfoud, at the provincial administration headquarters. The meeting took place as part of a tour by the Sahrawi diplomat to Italian regions, provinces, and municipalities participating in the "Little Sahrawi Ambassadors of Peace" project.
The meeting was also attended by the Mayor of San Giorgio Bigarello, Davide Dal Bosco; the Polisario Front Delegate for the Lombardy region, Omar Hassena Ahreim; and Mauro Cavara, President of the Fadel Ismail Association.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed issues of mutual interest and exchanged views on recent developments concerning the Western Sahara issue.
The discussions also covered the progress of the hosting programme for Sahrawi children currently staying in the Province of Mantua, where they have been since 4 July, as part of a joint initiative between the Polisario Front Representation in Italy and the Rete Sahrawi (Network of Associations in Solidarity with the Sahrawi People).
