Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), July 6, 2026 (SPS) – The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mahamoud Ali Youssouf, received the Special Envoy of the President of the Republic, Minister of State for Diplomatic Affairs at the Presidency, Mr. Mohamed Salem Ould Salek, on Monday morning at the African Union headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The meeting addressed a number of issues of mutual interest, as well as the major developments taking place across the African continent, within the framework of the African Union Commission's ordinary consultations with its member states.
During the meeting, the Special Envoy provided a comprehensive briefing on the latest international and regional developments related to the Sahrawi issue, reaffirming the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic's commitment to continuing the defense of the Sahrawi people's legitimate rights through all means recognized under international law.
The Special Envoy reaffirmed the Sahrawi Republic's firm determination to continue working within the African Union to advance the objectives and aspirations of African unity, while strengthening the continental organization's role in promoting peace, stability, and respect for its founding principles.
The meeting was attended by the Minister-Counsellor at the Sahrawi Mission to the African Union in Addis Ababa, Mr. Aman Sidi Abdallah, and the Chief of Staff to the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Dr. Yann Bedzigui.
