Maseru (Lesotho), July 6, 2026 (SPS) – The Sahrawi Minister of Foreign and African Affairs, Mr. Mohamed Yslam Beissat, was received on Monday in the capital, Maseru, by the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Lesotho, Mr. Sam Matekane.
The meeting took place at the Prime Minister's Office in a cordial and fraternal atmosphere reflecting the depth of bilateral relations. It was attended by Lesotho's Minister of Foreign Affairs, along with senior aides and advisers to the Prime Minister.
During the high-level meeting, Mr. Mohamed Yslam Beissat delivered a written message from the President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Brahim Ghali, to the Prime Minister of Lesotho.
The message focused on ways to strengthen and consolidate the fraternal relations between the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic and the Kingdom of Lesotho, as well as on continued consultation and coordination regarding African and international issues of mutual interest.
During the talks, Prime Minister Sam Matekane reaffirmed his country's longstanding and principled support for the legitimate struggle of the Sahrawi people to achieve their freedom and full independence.
He stressed that Lesotho's position would remain steadfast in defending the right of peoples to self-determination, in accordance with the founding principles of the African Union and the resolutions of international legitimacy.
For his part, the Sahrawi Foreign Minister briefed the Prime Minister on the latest developments concerning the Sahrawi national cause at all levels. He reviewed recent developments in the Sahrawi people's struggle and the efforts of the United Nations to resolve the conflict through the completion of the decolonization process in what is described as Africa's last colony, while addressing the obstacles and maneuvers attributed to the Moroccan occupation.
In the same context, the Foreign Minister gave a statement to local media in Lesotho, expressing the profound gratitude of the Sahrawi people and their leadership for Lesotho's consistent and principled position. He also reaffirmed the shared commitment of both countries to strengthening diplomatic coordination in continental and international forums.
