Lille (France), July 4, 2026 (SPS) – A delegation from the Polisario Front and the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) is participating in the proceedings of the 40th Congress of the French Communist Party (PCF), taking place from July 3 to 5 in Lille, northern France.
Headed by Mohamed Ali Zerouali, the Polisario Front's representative in France, the Sahrawi delegation is taking part in the various sessions of the congress alongside several hundred PCF delegates and numerous international delegations representing communist, progressive, and national liberation parties and movements.
The participation provides another opportunity to strengthen the ties of friendship and cooperation between the Polisario Front and the French Communist Party, while highlighting the latest developments in the Sahrawi cause and the Sahrawi people's struggle to exercise their inalienable right to self-determination and independence, in accordance with the resolutions of the United Nations and the African Union.
On the sidelines of the congress, the Sahrawi delegation will hold a series of meetings with leaders of the French Communist Party, as well as representatives of the international parties and movements attending the event in Lille. The discussions will focus on ways to strengthen international solidarity with the Sahrawi people, support efforts to complete the decolonization process of Western Sahara, and draw attention to the situation of Sahrawi political prisoners in Moroccan prisons, particularly the indefinite hunger strike being carried out by Sahrawi activist Naâma Asfari, who has been on hunger strike for more than twenty-five days to protest his detention conditions and demand respect for his fundamental rights.
