Shaheed El Hafed, June 10, 2026 (SPS) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs and African Affairs, Mohamed Yeslem Beissat, affirmed that any solution to the Sahrawi issue depends on the consent of the Sahrawi people, the rightful owners of the land.
Speaking in an interview with the First Channel of the Algerian Radio, Mr. Beissat pointed out that all proposals aimed at resolving the Sahrawi issue must be submitted to the Sahrawi people for consultation, as they are the legitimate owners of the territory.
The Minister reiterated the willingness of the Sahrawi side and its openness to engage positively with the efforts of the United Nations in order to reach a mutually agreed solution through which the Sahrawi people can exercise their legitimate right to self-determination.
Regarding the difficulties facing Staffan de Mistura, Mr. Beissat stated that the Personal Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General faces significant challenges, foremost among them the rigidity of the Moroccan position, which he said is supported by certain influential parties within the United Nations.
The Foreign Minister also noted that de Mistura’s visit to the Sahrawi side forms part of a regional tour aimed at continuing and deepening the process and efforts sponsored by the United Nations to resolve the Sahrawi issue within the framework of international legitimacy and the implementation of relevant UN resolutions.
