Tours (France), 1 June, 2026 (SPS) – The 54th Congress of the French General Confederation of Labour (CGT) officially opened in Tours, central France, with the participation of a delegation from the General Union of Workers of Saguia El Hamra and Rio de Oro (UGTSARIO), headed by its Secretary-General, Mr. Nafei Ahmed Mohamed.
The event is attended by more than eighty trade unions representing over seventy countries from around the world.
The five-day congress brings together approximately 2,000 delegates representing the various branches, structures, and affiliated organizations of the French trade union confederation.
The UGTSARIO Secretary-General emphasized that the Sahrawi issue is present in the proceedings of the congress. He added that the event provides an important opportunity to strengthen trade union solidarity in France and internationally in support of the Sahrawi people's struggle for freedom and independence.
