Shaheed El Hafed, May 22, 2026 (SPS) – The Minister of Education and Vocational Training, Mr. Abdelkader Taleb Omar, participated on Friday in the Bureau meeting of the Specialized Technical Committee on Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (STC-EST), in his capacity as First Vice-Chairperson of the Bureau, via videoconference.
In his address during the meeting, the Minister of Education and Vocational Training, Mr. Abdelkader Taleb Omar, welcomed the participants and expressed his appreciation to the officials responsible for the excellent and comprehensive organization and preparation of the Bureau meeting and the upcoming session. He also congratulated the African Union Commission and the continental organization for the numerous bodies, agencies, scientific research committees, and specialized innovation councils, in addition to the contributions of member states. He stressed that these efforts inspire confidence that the work presented will be qualitative and purposeful, addressing the required challenges and responding to the needs of our countries and continent, in pursuit of sustainable development, social justice, and employment for all, so that Africa may complete its sovereignty across all its nations on the basis of liberation, dignity, and development.
This meeting constitutes an essential step in preparation for the Sixth Ordinary Session of the Specialized Technical Committee on Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (STC-EST VI), in line with the African Union Decade of Education and Skills Development (2025–2034).
The meeting discussed several strategic issues, including the formal introduction among members of the Bureau of the Specialized Technical Committee and the leadership of the Department of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation at the African Union Commission, preparations for the Sixth Session of the Specialized Technical Committee, particularly the review of the draft agenda, as well as logistical and planning matters, including confirmation of the final date, venue, and host country for the Sixth Session of the Specialized Technical Committee.
The meeting was attended by African Union ministers responsible for education, science, technology, and innovation who are members of the Bureau of the Specialized Technical Committee on Education, Science, Technology and Innovation: the Republic of Malawi representing Southern Africa as Chairperson, the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic representing North Africa as First Vice-Chairperson, the Republic of Sierra Leone representing West Africa as Second Vice-Chairperson, the United Republic of Tanzania representing East Africa as Third Vice-Chairperson, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo as Rapporteur, in addition to officials from various departments of the Specialized Technical Committee and relevant bodies within the African Union Commission.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the proposed agenda for the Sixth Session and its dates, from November 2 to 6, were adopted, while the method and venue of the session will be determined at a later stage.
The meeting also adopted the proposal submitted by the Sahrawi Republic to prepare a summary containing the key findings and conclusions drawn from the numerous reports presented to the session.
