Tripoli (Libya), 14 May 2026 (SPS) – The Sahrawi Republic is participating in a continental workshop organized by the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, in partnership with the Libyan Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
The workshop, hosted in the Libyan capital Tripoli, aims to develop a clear strategy and plan to strengthen health systems’ responses to certain diseases such as sickle cell anemia, as well as to facilitate the exchange of expertise regarding the establishment of national disease control centers in North African countries.
Participants in the workshop discussed ways to strengthen and develop multi-sectoral issues, particularly increasing funding for the health sector and supporting research and studies in the fields of widespread diseases and methods of combating them.
Representing the Sahrawi Republic at the meeting were Ahmed Alein Mohamed El Bashir, Head of the Medical Analysis Laboratory Department at the Health Complex; El Khalil Salma from the Nursing and Surgery Department at the Health Complex; and Takbar Ettaleb from the Gastroenterology Department at the Health Complex.
