Shaheed El Hafed, 13 May 2026 (SPS) – The Chief of Staff of the Sahrawi People’s Liberation Army, member of the National Secretariat, Hamma Salama, confirmed that the Army General Staff has approved a “Code of Conduct” following the establishment of the Sahrawi Military Office for Monitoring Compliance with International Humanitarian Law.
During a press conference held today before media outlets, Hamma Salama stated that, in addition to the establishment of the “Sahrawi Military Office for Monitoring Compliance with International Humanitarian Law” and the appointment of its head, the General Staff of the Sahrawi People’s Liberation Army has approved a detailed “Code of Conduct” that will serve as a framework for guidance, supervision, and monitoring for the Sahrawi army and security formations.
The Chief of Staff added that the office, through its branches within various units, will undertake the task of strict and daily monitoring of compliance with the different provisions of the “Code of Conduct.” He indicated that the objective is not only procedural adherence to the detailed points contained in its six chapters, but also to establish these principles as a culture within the ranks of the Sahrawi People’s Liberation Army through regular training, retraining courses, and seminars.
He further stated that, through the “Sahrawi Military Coordination Office for Monitoring Compliance with International Humanitarian Law,” the Sahrawi People’s Liberation Army seeks to develop relations with specialized departments in the armed forces of friendly countries for the exchange of expertise, as well as with specialized international humanitarian organizations, particularly the International Committee of the Red Cross, in order to continue strengthening and training Sahrawi capacities in this field.
