Sahrawi Republic takes part in 87th Session of African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights

Banjul (The Gambia), 13 May 2026 (SPS) – The 87th session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights officially opened today in the Gambian capital, Banjul, with broad participation from representatives of African Union member states, as well as experts and representatives of regional and international civil society organizations.

This session is being held amid a regional and international context marked by growing human rights challenges. Over several days, the Commission will examine issues related to the protection of fundamental rights, the strengthening of monitoring and follow-up mechanisms, and the assessment of the human rights situation across various parts of the African continent.

The opening session was attended by official delegations from member states, including the Sahrawi Republic, which is participating in its capacity as a member state of the African Union, contributing to discussions and efforts aimed at promoting and protecting human and peoples’ rights in Africa.
