Colombian Congress honors Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic

Bogotá (Colombia), May 6, 2026 (SPS) – The Chamber of Representatives of the Congress of the Republic of Colombia awarded a high-level decoration to the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) during an official ceremony held in Bogotá.

The decoration, known as the “Order of Dignity and Homeland” in the rank of “Grand Solidarity,” was granted by the Board of the Second Committee on Foreign Relations, Defense and National Security, Foreign Trade and Honors. It was presented to the Sahrawi Embassy in Colombia and received by its ambassador, Mohamed Ali Ali Salem.

The ceremony was led by Representative David Alejandro Toro Ramírez, who presented the award, in an event attended by the Head of Protocol of the Chamber, Plinio Ordóñez, and the Secretary of the Second Committee on Foreign Relations, Magda Lorena Torres Bocanegra.

The “Order of Dignity and Homeland,” in the “Grand Solidarity” category, is awarded to individuals and institutions distinguished for their efforts in promoting cooperation, solidarity, and international relations. In this case, the award recognizes the diplomatic representation of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic in Colombia.

The event takes place within the framework of the close diplomatic relations maintained between Colombia and the SADR and reflects an institutional gesture of recognition toward the Sahrawi people.
