Basque Country (Spain), April 26, 2026 (SPS) – Associations of the Sahrawi community in the Basque Country marked the 50th anniversary of the proclamation of the Sahrawi Republic by organizing a celebration in the city of Bilbao, attended by the Sahrawi community representative in Europe, alongside the Polisario Front representative in the region and representatives of Basque political parties.

The event featured several speeches delivered by representatives of the Basque solidarity movement, all of which expressed support for the Sahrawi people, accompanying them in their struggle, strengthening their resilience, and amplifying their voice in forums calling on the Spanish government to align with United Nations resolutions that affirm the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination.

The celebration concluded with a large march that passed through the main streets of Bilbao, during which demonstrators chanted slogans rejecting the situation of the Moroccan occupation of Western Sahara.

At the end of the march, a statement was read in front of the Moroccan consulate in Bilbao, in which participants condemned the crimes of the Moroccan occupation and its brutal methods against the Sahrawi people, carried out with clear complicity and bias from successive Spanish governments.
