Smara Wilaya, April 21, 2026 (SPS) – A discussion workshop was held Tuesday on the natural resources of Western Sahara and the plundering they are subjected to by the Moroccan occupation.

In this context, legal aspects and ways to protect natural resources were discussed.

International women’s delegations took part in the discussions, which also addressed the impact of climate change on Sahrawi refugee camps.

On the other hand, participants highlighted the extent of the European Union’s involvement with Morocco in the exploitation of Sahrawi natural resources.

Most of the interventions focused on ways to resist this plundering by exposing the companies involved and organizing campaigns against the exploitation of natural resources in Western Sahara by the Moroccan occupation.

The speakers also stressed the responsibility of the United Nations to protect the Sahrawi people from the practices of the occupation and to safeguard their resources from ongoing exploitation.

The organization of this workshop comes as part of the program of the 10th Congress of the National Union of Sahrawi Women, which began its proceedings on Monday in Smara Wilaya.
