Sahrawi Embassy in Mexico commemorates 50th anniversary of proclamation of Sahrawi Republic

Mexico City (Mexico), March 2, 2026 (SPS) – The Sahrawi Embassy in Mexico commemorated the 50th anniversary of the proclamation of the Sahrawi Republic at the Press Club in the capital, Mexico City.

The event was attended by distinguished representatives from Mexico’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, members of both chambers of parliament, political parties, members of the diplomatic corps accredited in Mexico, universities, human rights associations, mass organizations, and other components of civil society.

The Sahrawi Ambassador to Mexico, Mohamed Salem Abdel Samad, highlighted the importance of the occasion, marking 50 years of liberation struggle, steadfastness, resilience, and determination to continue the struggle until the complete liberation of every inch of the territory of the Sahrawi Republic.

For his part, the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Director for Africa, Mr. Jorge Antonio Delgado, praised the historic bilateral relations between the two countries, respect for the rights and will of the Sahrawi people, and Mexico’s firm position on the decolonization of Western Sahara.

Attendees also viewed a large exhibition showcasing Sahrawi institutions, the areas of development achieved by the Sahrawi state, as well as documentation on the human rights situation in the occupied part of Western Sahara.
