Smara Wilaya, February 23, 2026 (SPS) – The regional club of the wilay of Smara hosted a press conference on Monday to present the 26th edition of the Sahara Marathon, which will see the participation of more than 200 runners from 16 nationalities.
In his address on the occasion, the president of the marathon’s organizing committee revealed the new features of the 26th edition, particularly those related to the marathon route, the starting times for each distance, as well as technical and organizational details related to this international sporting event.
The Sahara Marathon represents an opportunity for Sahrawi organizers to exchange and develop expertise in preparation for hosting professional national marathons in the future. It also serves as a platform for discovering Sahrawi talents, both locally and abroad, to take part in continental and international competitions.
In this edition, held under the slogan “26 Years Running for Freedom,” participants will choose tomorrow, Tuesday, among four race distances: 42 km from El Aaiún to Smara, 21 km from Auserd to Smara, 10 km in Smara, 5 km in Smara, in addition to a special race for children.
