Boujdour Wilaya, February 18, 2026 (SPS) – The National Union of Sahrawi Women (NUSW) affirmed that Sahrawi women continue to give and contribute in all fields.
In a statement issued on the occasion of National Mother’s Day, celebrated on February 18, the Union stated that commemorating this day represents a renewal of commitment and loyalty to the message of Sahrawi women, who have always been at the heart of the struggle for liberation and nation-building, alongside men, under the leadership of the Polisario Front, the sole and legitimate representative of the Sahrawi people.
The statement reaffirmed its commitment to continue the struggle in all legitimate forms until Sahrawi people exercise their inalienable right to self-determination and independence.
February 18 was chosen to commemorate the martyrdom of the Sahrawi activist Shai’a Othman Ahmed Zein in 1976, following the brutal bombing of Umdrega while she was carrying out her humanitarian duty as a nurse, pregnant at the time. She became a symbol of the activist mother who combined the mission of life with the mission of resistance, sacrificing her life for the homeland.
